Wind-smart, salt-wise blinds & outdoor screens for Hout Bay

Hout Bay is its own world — harbour, beach, valley smallholdings and view homes ringed by mountains. It's also a world of south-easter funnels and salt air, and window treatments here survive only if they're specified for it. Ours are.

Made for this suburb

Blinds that understand Hout Bay

The valley funnels wind, and sea-facing homes add salt to the equation. That's why we lean on zip-guided outdoor screens (fabric locked in side channels, not flapping loose), powder-coated aluminium, and hardware chosen to shrug off coastal air — with honest maintenance advice included.

Inside, the brief runs from beach-house casual to smallholding country: sunscreen rollers that keep mountain and harbour views, moisture-tolerant venetians for kitchens and bathrooms, and blockout where the summer sun wakes the household at five.

Before you choose

The Hout Bay Light, Wind & Salt Playbook

We wrote a plain-English field guide to shading windows in this valley: how the afternoon sun and the glare off the water hit sea-facing glass, what the south-easter does to an outdoor blind, why salt air decides the hardware, and how the damp forest side near Constantia Nek flips the whole brief. It works through the choices room by room, with honest trade-offs both ways — then hands you two easy ways forward.

Good to know

Common questions

Will an outdoor blind survive the south-easter?
A flapping drop blind won't. A zip screen — fabric welded into side channels — is built for exactly this, and we specify wind ratings honestly per position. Exposed awnings get sensors that retract them automatically.
Does salt air really matter for blinds?
Yes. Cheap hardware pits and seizes within seasons at the coast. We use powder-coated aluminium and coastal-grade components, and we'll tell you straight which products don't belong near the sea.
